Planning for Fête de la Riviére began two years ago when Peter Lambert and his fellow committee members decided on the importance of including French-Canadian heritage as part of the Jaffrey 250 celebration.
“Seemingly half the town has French Canadian ancestors,” Lambert said.
Wednesday night, July 26, hosted a gorton-tasting competition. Gorton is a French-Canadian pork spread that is often flavored with nutmeg and clove. First place was awarded to Alice Moline, second place to Peter Lambert and third to Edie Kemp.
Pam Hill won the tourtière (pork pie) contest, with second and third going to Roberta Letourneau and Sandy Stewart.
“We really didn’t know if anyone was going to show up to these events, so we were ecstatic by the turnout,” Lambert said.
During Riverfest on Saturday, singer Josée Vachonand fiddler Peter Ross performed at the Jaffrey Woman’s Club. Events also included a pétanque competition, similar to bocce, and a poutine truck on Jaffrey Common.
