Greenville fire crews responded to a house fire on Pleasant Street Saturday.
The fire was contained to a single room in the home, according to Greenville Fire Chief Ben Buttrick, and started in the area of a couch, but the department has not determined a cause at this time and the fire is still under investigation.
Buttrick said damage to the home was mainly confined to the room where the fire started, and the wall where the couch was located was opened to investigate for extension into the insulation or wall. Members of the household were home at the time the fire started, and were able to evacuate safely, according to Buttrick.
The fire was quickly extinguished by the first crews to arrive on scene, Buttrick said.
The Greenville Fire Department was assisted on scene by Mason Fire and EMS, New Ipswich Fire Department, the Ashby Fire and EMS Association, the Temple Volunteer Fire Department, the Townsend Fire-EMS Department, Souhegan Valley Ambulance, who stood by as a precaution; and the Mason Police Department, which assisted with traffic control. The Jaffrey Fire Department covered the Greenville station during the call.
