Mi Jalisco was open Tuesday, the day after the Mexican restaurant in the Peterborough Shopping Plaza closed because Customs Enforcement officers conducted a search for the chef, according to co-owner Genaro Quezada.
Shortly before noon, a woman came in to hug Ofelia Quezada, Genaro’s sister, and express her sympathies. It was one of multiple expressions of support she said the restaurant has received.
“We are open our normal hours and working hard,” she said.
Although Peterborough Police Department officers were not involved in any searches, Police Chief Scott Guinard said Wednesday morning that ICE informed him that they had located the four people they were looking for. The agency has not responded to requests for comment, and the ICE webpage for news releases and statements has made no recent references to arrests in New Hampshire as of midday Wednesday.
In addition to the search at Mi Jalisco, patrons and employees of the Ocean State Job Lot and Liberty Laundry in the plaza reported seeing what appeared to be law enforcement officers with a man in the parking lot.
Although she wasn’t there, Naomi Kroposky-Zyck of Peterborough said her 8-year-old grandson, who was with her friend, saw someone being arrested Monday.
“This is terrible,” she said. “He has friends from other nations in school, and he’s afraid they’re going to be in danger.”
