Former Conant High School principal John Barth has been named as the finalist for the same position at Mascenic, according to a message posted on the SAU 87 website on Friday.

According to the posting, a team of high school teachers and staff, district administrators, union representation and the school board made up the search committee, which narrowed the five applicants down to three finalists, from which Barth emerged as their unanimous selection.

This stands in contrast to the events of last Monday’s school board meeting, where several parents expressed interest in serving on the search committee for the new principal, as they had for Marshall the year before.

Those parents were told that a letter or email would go out informing them of such an opportunity.

Four days later, the search was complete.

Superintendent Ruthann Goguen did not return calls from the Ledger-Transcript regarding the decision.

The district will hold a meet and greet with Barth at the Mascenic library on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m.

Barth would replace Tom Marshall, whose contract was not renewed by the school board after his first year.

Barth previously held the same position at Conant High School from 2006 up until the end of the 2013-14 school year. In March of 2014, Barth and music teacher Leonard Holmes were placed on leave by the district for unspecified reasons. Barth resigned at the end of April 2014.
