Francie Von Mertens to discuss nature almanac at Harris Center in Hancock

Published: 12-07-2024 8:30 AM

Francie Von Mertens, longtime former Monadnock Ledger-Transcript "Backyard Birder" columnist, will speak at the Harris Center for Conservation Education, 83 King’s Highway in Hancock, Thursday, Dec. 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Her presentation, "Nature Through the Year in Backyard and Beyond," will focus on her new "Nature Almanac & Calendar." The calendar is a result of Von Mertens' work after ending her column. It combines daily photos and narratives to explore the natural world, including plants and animals, answering questions about the environment. In her talk, Von Mertens will discuss the benefits of spending time outdoors and how it connects people to the natural world.

Herbal tea brewed from native plants will be served, and copies of the almanac, along with other Harris Center merchandise, will be available for purchase.

The event is free, but registration is encouraged. To register or for information, visit harriscenter.org/events/nature-through-the-year or call 603-525-3394.
