Laura Abrahamsen, director of George H. Bixby Memorial Library in Francestown, hosted a genealogy workshop April 20.

Using various strategies and online resources, Abrahamsen taught participants ways to identify missing information about a photograph. Jan Griffin shared a photograph of what attendees concluded to be a professional photograph taken at a garden party between 1905 and 1910. Griffin’s grandmother sits at the center of the photograph, among what is believed to be family attending the same party.

Taking note of details like hairstyle and clothing are important to study, along with what lies in the background of photographs. Further questions include what landscapes or architecture are presented, whether the photograph is clear or blurry and what that could say about the camera used to take the photograph.
