The ConVal girls’ lacrosse team won their first playoff game on Wednesday and then lost in a tough battle on Saturday to end their season.

On Wednesday, ConVal beat Manchester Memorial-West 16-3, as twelve different players scored for the Cougars, who put the visitors into running time in the first half on their way to an easy Division II tournament win.

Julia Donovan, Caitlin Beal, Anna Taylor and Molly Dishong scored two goals each.

ConVal held MM-W to just six shots on goal.

The Cougars then hosted Pembroke in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Down 7-4 at the half, ConVal made defensive adjustments to get back in the game.

“Our midfielders and defense stepped up the pressure and we were able to get turnovers,” said head coach Derek Sorbello. The Cougars tied the game up briefly at 9-9 before Pembroke took the lead back. ConVal had three chances to score in the final 35 seconds, but couldn’t break through past Pembroke’s keeper, and the Cougars lost, 10-9.

“All losses are tough, especially close ones like this,” Sorbello said. “But man, did we play tough all game. They never let up, even when we were down. Our seniors and juniors have really set a great example for our younger players this season.”

Juli a Donovan had four goals for ConVal; Madelynne Plourde and Ella Dishong had two each.

Sarah Holdredge had 9 saves.
