Big things are happening with Andy’s Summer Playhouse in Wilton Saturday. That is when the young actors at Andy’s, affectionately called “Andy’s Kids,” will be performing a staged reading of a theatrical adaptation by Wyckham Avery of the award-winning book, Goblin Secrets, by William Alexander. The event will be followed by with a talkback with Avery and the cast of Andy’s kids. There will be a cash bar as well as hors d’oeuvres.

“We are so thrilled to welcome one of our veteran artists, Wyckham Avery, to the Greenhouse this summer,” said Jared Mezzocchi, Producing Artistic Director of Andy’s. “Wyckham is one of our strongest mentors and deepest nurturers of the Andy’s spirit and we cannot wait to see how she ignites the minds of our Greenhouse Kids. Year in and year out, she brings thoughtful and inquisitive theater to the hillside of Andy’s, and so it just seems like a perfect fit to grant her this week of exploration on an adaptation that she’s been passionately thinking about for the past several years.”

This staged reading is part of a new initiative at Andy’s called The Greenhouse. The Greenhouse is a metaphysical extension of the playhouse, where an invited artist or group of artists hold residency for as little or as long as possible to create a new script.

This initiative encourages experimentation, scene readings, workshops of movement ideas, and open work sessions with Andy’s kids so they may be exposed to the process of brainstorming and developing ideas for the stage. The Greenhouse culminates into a public reading of a full script.

Goblin Secrets is accessible to audiences of all ages. It will be performed on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the yellow barn adjacent to Andy’s Summer Playhouse at 582 Isaac Frye Highway in Wilton. General admission tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for children aged 18 and under or seniors over 65 and may be purchased online at www.andyssummerplayhouse.org, at the Andy’s Summer Playhouse box office, or via phone at 654-2613.

William Alexander will also be doing a reading of Goblin Secrets at Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough on Saturday at 3 p.m. This reading is in collaboration with Andy’s Summer Playhouse and will be followed by a book signing.
