The main entrance to the Greenville Town Hall is closed this week as repairs continue on the double-sided brick and concrete steps.
The work is a long time coming, and was significantly delayed by COVID-19, Town Administrator Tara Sousa said.
The Select Board originally approved the use of $13,700 from unrestricted state aid in 2019 to repair the steps, which had crumbling concrete and were becoming unsightly and a safety concern as the concrete steps loosened, Sousa said.
A bid was approved more than a year ago, Sousa said, but the work had to be put on hold as COVID-19 hit. The Select Board hoped to complete the work last fall, but cold weather delayed it yet again.
Sousa said the Select Board encumbered the state aid, and it will still be used to complete the project this week.
The steps are the main entrance to the Select Board office. Visitors can still access the office through the town clerk and tax collector’s office until the steps are available again, which should be by the end of the week, Sousa said.
