With assistance from donors and volunteers, the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Greenville has received a facelift.

The pantry closed for appointments last week, through July 5, for repainting the space in Sacred Heart Church in Greenville, reorganizing and adding shelving.

“It just makes people feel better, to come into a nice, clean space, where they can get their food,” said food pantry president Kevin Little.

Little said the space needed some cosmetic improvements, which were made possible through community donations and volunteers. The renovations included repainting the floor, the walls and the ceiling, as well as the interior stairway, and additional racks for more items.

Belletetes donated the floor paint, and an anonymous donor donated the remaining paint. Pantry volunteers did the work.

“This was all made possible by donations and volunteer work,” Little said.

Little said its important to have a clean welcoming space, now more than ever, as the St. Vincent de Paul pantry is more in demand. As of April, the pantry was providing food for approximately 15,000 meals per month, which is a 500 percent increase from the same time last year, requiring the pantry to receive food from the state food bank twice as often.

The pantry will reopen starting Wednesday, July 5, by appointment, and for its regular hours on Thursday, July 6.
