Greenville Old Home Day set for Saturday

Greenville’s annual Old Home Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24, with local vendors, games and live music on the town field on Adams Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be a flea market, farmers’ market, town picnic, cookout, children’s games and activities for all ages.

The flea market and farmers’ market will be available throughout the day.

Local town trucks and emergency vehicles will be available for children to explore from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Greenville Summer Arts & Crafts program plan to provide a children’s craft activity from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

At 11:30 a.m. to noon, Marshall Buttrick will give a talk and presentation on “Historic Greenville”.

For those with a talent in the kitchen, there will be a chili cook-off and a pie baking contest from noon to 2 p.m. Entrants should deliver their chili or pie to the field by noon, and residents can sample and vote for their favorites until 2 p.m.

Ione Entertainment will provide face painting and balloon twisting from noon to 2 p.m.

From noon to 3 p.m., there will be hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks available for sale, or residents are welcome to bring their own lunch for a picnic on the field.

At 12:30 p.m., the Greenville Town Pool will open and have special water wars Old Home Day activities.

The band Tattoo will provide live music from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Throughout the day, there will be field games such as pie-eating and tug of war. Come and compete for bragging rights.

There is no rain date for this event.
