NEW IPSWICH Arraignment for New Ipswich man

The arraignment date for a New Ipswich man paralyzed from the waist down after a single car accident in June has been rescheduled.

Gregory Steele, 26, was supposed to be arraigned at the Merrimack Superior Court on July 27, but will now be arraigned on Sept. 14, according to court documents.

Steele was involved in a car accident in Northfield on Interstate 93 northbound near exit 20 on June 9. Steele was unresponsive after his vehicle struck a guardrail, according to police reports.

An affidavit on file with the court says multiple containers of alcohol were found throughout Steele’s vehicle, both opened and unopened. “Green vegetative matter” was also located in the car, along with two glass smoking pipes.

A blood test was requested, according to the affidavit, but there are no mentions of Steele’s BAC level.

This is the second time Steele’s arraignment has been rescheduled, with the original date June 15.

Almost $15,000 has been raised for Steele as a part of a gofundme page set up after the accident. The most notable donation is $5,000 said to be from former NBA superstar Tracy McGrady.
