Hancock Community Conversations on Race (HCCR) hosted its sixth annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration Monday at Reynolds Hall at All Saints’ Episcopalian Church in Peterborough. Last year’s event was at Hancock Congregational Church.

Jennifer L. Walters, rector of All Saints’ Church, and Doug Sutherland, one of the founders of HCCR, welcomed the group. The standing-room-only event celebrating the life and work of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. included a community potluck with contributions from Aesop’s Table and Brady’s Grill.

Speakers included activist Claire Holston, historian the Rev. Michelle Stahl and state Rep. Johan Wheeler of Peterborough. The celebration also included performances by the Cecelia Ensemble of the Grand Monadnock Youth Choir, directed by writer Esther Holland Rhoades; a recitation by Desean Penny, a writer from Antrim’s Avenue A Teen Center, a solo by singer Rex Schwab; and a performance by the Hancock Jr. Mints, with Jody Hill Simpson and Ethan McBrien.
