Former Division I women’s ice hockey coach Heather Linstad was expected to be nominated for the new Jaffrey-Rindge activities director position at Monday’s school board meeting, but the district postponed the nomination over the weekend.

Lindstad racked up over 300 career wins in DI as the head coach of Northeastern and the University of Connecticut from 1992-2013, winning ECAC Coach of the Year in 1994.  Linstad also coached the U.S. Women's National Under-18 ice hockey team in the 2011-12 season.

More recently, Lindstad was head coach and assistant general manager of the Connecticut Whale, a National Women’s Hockey League team, in 2016-17 before returning to her hometown of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where she coached softball at Chelmsford High School.

Linstad’s nomination appeared on the agenda for the Monday, May 6 school board meeting when it was initially released last week, but a revised agenda released on Saturday no longer included her name or nomination.

District superintendent Reuben Duncan said in an email to the Ledger-Transcript that the district “wanted to do further due diligence prior to bringing forth a nomination.”

The activities director position is a new, full-time position which would absorb the duties of the athletic director as well as oversee clubs and extracurriculars.

Some members of the Jaffrey-Rindge community have been vocal in their support of current athletic director and Conant alumni Dave Springfield after learning he was not the selection committee’s choice for the new position, showing up to voice their opinions at the most recent school board meeting and rallying in downtown Jaffrey last Saturday.
