Letter: Ringing bells for King celebration

The Jaffrey-Rindge Martin Luther King Celebration Committee is again participating in the National Bell-Ringing Ceremony. On Jan. 20, prior to the first of two events, the Jaffrey and Rindge communities will participate in the National Bell-Ringing Ceremony.

This tradition was inspired by Coretta Scott King, and our 11th local celebration commences this year in concert with the ringing of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia as a symbol of freedom and justice in both Jaffrey and Rindge.

At 2 p.m. Jan. 20, the bells of the United Church of Jaffrey and the Cathedral of the Pines will chime to announce the two events – a keynote address by Nicholas Stephanopoulos on Voting Rights in the 21st century at the cathedral and a 5 p.m. celebration with school choruses on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the Park Theatre in Jaffrey.
