Icy conditions on Wednesday night sent cars off the road all over Jaffrey, including one serious crash, according to Jaffrey police.

Jaffrey Lt. Christopher LaBrecque said Thursday that the most serious crash of the night occurred on River Street at around 11:05 p.m., when a Toyota Tacoma pick up truck, driven by a 20-year-old Winchendon, Massachusetts man, lost control, slid off the road and rolled.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, and was not injured. The truck was towed from the scene.

While that was the only crash of the night to result in major vehicle damage, LaBrecque said Jaffrey police responded to multiple other calls throughout the night thanks to icy conditions caused by rain and cold temperatures.

“It was just a leap frog game of going from one to the other, and trying to get them on their way as quick as possible, because we were getting accidents from people slowing down and trying to avoid other cars off the road,” LaBrecque said.

LaBrecque said while several cars required assistance, either by tow or being manually pushed back onto the road, the River Road crash was the only one that resulted in more than minor damage to a vehicle, and there were no injuries as a result of cars off the road.
