Jaffrey Public Library online Humanities Book Discussions group will meet Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 pm on Zoom

The online book discussion group for adults features a different humanities discipline -- history, literature, philosophy, ethics, archaeology, anthropology, linguistics, geography, the law or legal theory, classics and cultural or religious studies --- each month.  A humanities expert will take part in a shared book discussion on Zoom, and the group alternates monthly between fiction and nonfiction.

The October selection is “When All is Said,” by Anne Griffin. Through the course of one evening, Maurice Hannigan sits on a bar stool in Ireland and offers five toasts to the people who have meant the most to him in his long life. These remembrances tell a story of guilt, regret, loss, love and beauty, in the voice of a narrator. Griffin's debut novel, published in 2019, was a best-seller in Ireland and earned her acclaim as a new author.

Carrie Brown, who previously hosted discussions of “Hamnet” and “The Women with Silver Wings,” will lead the discussion. Brown holds a doctorate in American literature and folklore from the University of Virginia.

Copies of the month's selection will be provided for all participants and are available for pickup.  Registration is required at eventkeeper.com/code/ekform.cfm?curOrg=JAFFREY&curID=594268.
