Jaffrey Public Library, 38 Main St., will present “Post-Roe Era: What are the Potential Implications for other Civil Rights?” Tuesday, July 26, at 6:30 p.m.

Johnna Pike from Franklin Pierce University will provide context to the reasoning of recent Supreme Court decisions and the significance not only to reproductive rights but also to other civil rights, such as marriage equality. Pike will discuss the Roe decision and its importance to the right to privacy, how the Dobbs opinion upended the meaning of this right and rights more broadly and why the court’s opinion in Dobbs has implications for other civil rights.

Pike is an assistant professor of criminal justice and coordinator of the Global Citizenship Program at Franklin Pierce University. She graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a law degree and a doctorate in sociology. Pike’s teaching and research focus is the intersection of social issues and the criminal justice system.  Before joining Franklin Pierce University in 2019, she worked within New York’s problem-solving courts advocating for survivors of gender-based violence and analyzing the efficacy of the courts’ programs. She has been recognized for her efforts on behalf of women and children by the New York Women’s Bar Association.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. It is in-person only.
