Jaffrey celebrated some of its most-involved citizens with a volunteer dinner, thanking longtime members of town boards and elected positions and the committee responsible for putting together the town’s 250th anniversary celebrations, along with naming the Youth Volunteer of the Year.

The Youth Volunteer for 2024 is Jessica Yap, a Conant High School junior who ranks fifth out of 97 students in her class. She is a two-sport athlete, playing soccer and tennis, as well as being a member of the Conant Interact Club and Conant’s Link Crew, which assists in orienting incoming freshman into the high school. As a member of Interact, Yap is planning a trip to the Dominican Republic to help build a new school.

In Jaffrey, Yap has been involved as a volunteer for several town events, including the annual Easter egg hunt and the town Christmas tree-lighting. She is the captain of her school’s robotics team, and has assisted younger team members with learning programming skills. She will be assisting at the state championship this year.

The town’s Volunteer of the Year was given collectively to the town’s 250th Jubilee Committee.

“Their hard work started in 2018, and after countless meetings, they put together such an incredible series of events highlighting and honoring all of Jaffrey’s rich history, celebrating the present and envisioning to a bright future. Town pride was evident throughout all of 2023,” the proclamation thanking the committee for their work reads.

The town also issued special thanks to some individuals who were present. Among them were Rob Stephenson, who was recognized for his work as a member of the Meetinghouse Committee, Marc Tieger for his 34 years of service as town moderator and Kevin Chamberlain for his five years of service on the Select Board. Ann Royce, who was not in attendance, was thanked for more than 25 years as the town’s representative on the Monadnock Advisory Commission.
