Asphalt cold planing and paving activity is expected to severely impact traffic driving through downtown Jaffrey from Monday through Friday next week, according to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

“Downtown, it’s going to be very difficult to get through there next week and we’re encouraging residents to seek alternate routes because delays will be long,” Richard Arcand, DOT Program Specialist, said Friday.

Paving activities are planned to start Monday at 7 a.m. on Main Street at the intersections of routes 202, 124, and 137.

“It’s a pavement rehabilitation project so they will scrape off the top layer of pavement and then on Thursday and Friday they’ll be putting down new pavement,” Arcand said.

This project requires lane closures and alternating one-way traffic. Traffic will be allowed through, but there will be long wait times.

“Expect long delays,” Arcand said. “It will be one week of pain, but it won’t need resurfacing for ten years.”

Mitchell Sand & Gravel from Winchester is the contractor for the project.
