John Kohlmorgan, a veteran of area recreation departments, has been selected as the new head of the Jaffrey Recreation Department.

Kohlmorgan met with the Jaffrey Select Board during its meeting Tuesday, and the board welcomed him to his new position.

“I hope you have a great tenure here,” said Chair Frank Sterling. “We appreciate you coming over.”

This is Kohlmorgan’s first time as a recreation director, but he has held program or sports coordinator positions in several other local recreation departments, including in Rindge, Milford and most recently, Peterborough, where he was the program coordinator.

“I’m excited to be here, and hopefully, once COVID settles down, we can get back to recreating in a normal capacity,” Kohlmorgan told the board.

Kohlmorgan grew up locally in Jaffrey and Rindge, and currently lives in Rindge, he told the board. He is a graduate of Conant High School and Franklin Pierce University, where he studied recreation management. He became interested in the career from watching his parents run the Woodbound Inn, which they owned from 1994 through 2008, he told the board.

“I grew up in recreation and hospitality management,” Kohlmorgan said.
