On Friday, Ingalls Memorial Library in Rindge will welcome Keene author Duncan Watson, who will be discussing his 2024 book "Everyone's Trash: One Man Against 1.6 Billion Pounds."

This program is part of the library's "Learn and Lunch" series and will be held at the Rindge Meeting House, 6 Payson Hill Road.

Watson has been running the City of Keene’s solid waste program for 33 years. During that time, Keene has gone from hand-sorting its recyclables to becoming a nationally recognized facility. In the book, Watson shares both his knowledge of waste management and his experiences with people he has met at the "dump." Watson’s debut book also tackles the fact that Americans discard about five pounds of waste every day – resulting in the 1.6 billion pounds referenced in the title. With a mix of stories from his work and statistics, the book works to show the importance of recycling.

In addition to his work as an author and for the City of Keene, Watson has been a storyteller and yoga instructor, and from the years of 1975 to 1977, he voiced the Peanuts character Charlie Brown.

Copies of the book will be available at the program. Attendees can bring their lunch if they choose.
