Former President Thomas Jefferson once wrote: “Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties — 1. those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes. 2. those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depository of the public interests.”
The choice before us could not be more stark and consequential. Do we believe in free enterprise and markets or a mighty, centralized government that knows it knows best, whose great powers are a magnet for corruption and bad behavior? Whether it be two unfounded impeachment attempts against populist President Donald Trump and the launching of a criminal investigation with no underlying crime, itself a crime, there is nothing but more of the same.
Equal justice before the law is on life support. As they spend the country into an unimaginable $30 trillion in federal debt ( that’s us, folks), fueling the flames of inflation, sane, rational economic policy is nowhere to be found. Instead, there is nonstop, political self-congratulation and glad-handing.
This corrosive atmosphere has even seeped down to Peterborough. Any challenge to the all-powerful, monopoly public school will not be tolerated no matter how principled and dedicated it is. Sorry, Lionheart.
