PeterboroughKrommes to sign booksat Toadstool

Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator Beth Krommes of Peterborough will sign copies of her new children’s book “Where the Deer Slip Through” at the Toadstool Bookshop, 12 Depot Square in Peterborough, on Saturday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Krommes will also discuss the creation of the book and demonstrate her scratchboard illustration technique. All ages are welcome.

Written by the late Katey Howes and published by Beach Lane Press, “Where the Deer Slip Through” is a cumulative poem following a host of animals moving through a farm from sunrise to moonrise. Krommes said the manuscript inspired vivid imagery and gave her freedom to build narrative through illustration. She describes the book as “my love letter to Pennsylvania,” where both she and Howes were raised.

Krommes received the Caldecott Medal in 2009 for “The House in the Night” and has illustrated several other books.
