The Dublin Select Board approved three additional signs to direct parking around Dublin Lake, as new rules against parking along the lakeshore go into affect.

During its meeting Tuesday night, the board met with Police Chief Tim Suokko to discuss the enforcement of the new parking ordinance around the lake, which bans parking on the lake side of Lake Road.

Parking is still available along Lake Road on the side not adjacent to the lake, and also along Mauran Lane, which is close to the boat launch. A portion of Mauran Lane is a designated fire lane, but another portion includes about 120 feet of boat launch parking.

Suokko told the board the new rules have been going well, and  that tickets that have been given out are more often for parking incorrectly, such as parking in the wrong direction, rather than drivers violating the new lakeside ban. However, he did request an additional three new signs in high traffic areas, including near the boat ramp.

Suokko asked the board to post a sign at the boat ramp, plus two additional signs in another heavy parking area that direct “parking this side only.” The board agreed.

“That seems an easy request,” said Chair Chris Raymond. Raymond said as July comes to a close, the parking situation will likely settle naturally, as visitor volume drops.

“Hopefully the heat is off on the parking situation for the summer,” Raymond said.

The board requested an ongoing report from Suokko on the number of tickets he has to give out related to lake parking, and what the violations are. Suokko agreed to do so.
