MilliporeSigma was evacuated on Wednesday, after a lightning strike in the area activated the building’s fire alarm systems.

According to Jaffrey Fire Chief David Chamberlain, the lightning didn’t directly strike any of the buildings at the MilliporeSigma facility. However, the strike came down close enough that it caused a malfunction with the fire alarm equipment and wiring to a remote storage building.

When fire crews arrived, the facility had been evacuated.

The entire facility was checked by the Jaffrey Fire Department and MilliporeSigma employees checking for damage or fire, but nothing was found. The fire alarm was reset, and the building was cleared to resume business by the fire department.
