Souhegan Lions Club funraisers include return of in-person Chip Chase

Souhegan Lions Club has several fundraisers to close out the year, including the return of the New Year’s Day Peanut Butter Chip Chase road race, a raffle for a new kayak and its annual Christmas tree sale.

The club is selling Christmas trees at Temple General Store during store hours through Dec. 12 or until supplies are gone. Trees are $35 each. The club will also have raffle tickets available for sale for $1 or six tickets for $5 at the tree sale, to win a grand prize of a 12-foot kayak. Additional prizes include gift certificates for area retailers.

In addition to the tree sale, raffle tickets will also be available before and after the Peanut Butter Chip Chase on New Year’s Day at Temple General Store. The prizes will be drawn following the race.

The Peanut Butter Chip Chase is an annual tradition that had to go virtual last year, but returns for in-person racing Jan. 1. The children’s race begins at 11:30 a.m. on the town green in Temple, and the 5-kilometer road race begins at noon. The first 120 entrants receive an official 5K race T-shirt. The race is limited to 300 entrants this year, so interested racers are recommended to register early, prior to Dec. 30.

Race-day registration is $20 and $15 for 18 and under, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Temple Town Hall. Registration is completely electronic this year, so racers should bring a smartphone if they plan to do same-day registration. Volunteers will be available to assist. There is no charge for registration for the children’s race.

The entry fee includes a free shirt for the first 120 registrants, refreshments and entrance into the post-race prize drawing, which includes meals and gift certificates.

To register for the race, go to tinyurl.com/2021peanutbutterchipchase.

Proceeds are used by the Lions Club to help individuals and groups in their service towns and in New Hampshire. Visit the Souhegan Lions Club Facebook page for information.
