According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the community COVID level in Hillsborough and Cheshire counties is low as of Aug. 4.

The CDC uses case rate per 100,000 population (107.19 in Hillsborough County), new COVID-19 admissions per 100,000 population (6.3) and percentage of staffed inpatient beds in use by patients with confirmed COVID-19 (2.6 percent) to determine the community COVID level.

In Cheshire County, the case rate per 100,000 population is 74.92, the new COVID admissions per 100,000 is 5.9 and percentage of staffed inpatient beds in use by patients with confirmed COVID-19 is 3.2 percent.

In areas with low community levels, the CDC recommends the following:

-- Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.

-- Wear a mask if you have symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19.

-- Wear a mask on public transportation, or at any other time as an additional precaution to protect yourself and others.

-- Maintain improved ventilation throughout indoor spaces when possible.

-- Follow CDC recommendations for isolation and quarantine, including getting tested if you are exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms of COVID-19.

-- If you are immunocompromised or high risk for severe disease, have a plan for rapid testing if needed and talk to your health care provider about whether you are a candidate for treatments like oral antivirals, PrEP, and monoclonal antibodies.
