Public speaker and life-coach Kasey Mathews of Wilton is offering her latest book, “A Mom’s Guide to Creating a Magical Life” to parents for free.
Mathews, herself a mother of two, said the book is part tips and part workbook to help remind parents to be mindful and present in the moment
“We’re in an extraordinary time. I work with a lot of moms, and I’m hearing a lot about overwhelm, seeing parents dealing with having to help with their children’s schoolwork posting things like ‘Day three, I let them graduate,’” Mathews said. “I think parents need something for themselves right now.”
The book was published in 2018, but has become more relevant than ever, Mathews said. Its basic premise is that parents, particularly mothers, tend to put aside their own needs in favor of everyone else. The purpose of the book is to remind parents to recharge themselves before seeing to everyone else.
“They’re just simple daily practices, that anyone can do, and is mostly about changing habits,” Mathews said.
Things like giving yourself time in the morning before you check social media, or limiting your news intake to certain points of the day, and being more present in the moment with your family.
“Quarantining is hard. Acknowledge those difficulties, but also look at this time as a global pause button. We’re never going to have a time like this again, God willing. It’s a chance for a shift in mindset,” Mathews said. “How are you going to look at this situation as a gift?”
Mathews said she will be leaving free copies of the book at the Little Free Library in Wilton, as well as the Main Street Park, and under the community bulletin board next to the Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough. Anyone can come and take a copy for themselves.
