A Jaffrey man was airlifted and hospitalized after being injured in a car crash on Center Road in Lyndeborough Tuesday night. Wednesday night a hospital spokesperson said Nichols is listed in stable condition.

Joshua Nichols, 37, of Jaffrey suffered significant injuries when the 2011 Dodge Challenger he was driving crashed into a tree on Center Road, Lyndeborough police said in a press release Tuesday evening.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, police said in the release.

Lyndeborough Fire & Rescue responded at around 6:24 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving reports of the crash at a sharp curve on Center Road near Herrick Road, Lyndeborough Fire & Rescue said in a Facebook post on Tuesday night.

“Nichols was entrapped in the car and the Lyndeborough Fire Rescue had to extricate him from the vehicle. He was treated and evaluated on-scene by the Wilton Ambulance and a medical helicopter was requested and one responded from Worcester Medical Center. Nichols was flown to Worcester Medical Center with multiple injuries,” police said.

Lyndeborough Fire & Rescue said in the Facebook post, “Due to [an] altered mental state, broken femur, and the mechanism of injury the decision was made to fly the patient via UMASS Memorial Life Flight. Between years of training, a great team effort, our new Amkus hydraulic cutter, and our new Warn winch we were able to make a quick and successful extrication.”

Lyndeborough Fire & Rescue also thanked the mutual aid responders – the Francestown Fire Department for setting up a landing zone and Wilton Ambulance for patient transport.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lyndeborough Police Chief Rainsford Deware at (603) 654-5469, Ext. 243.
