An autopsy has determined that the death of 83-year-old Robert Prest Nov. 23 was a homicide caused by blunt-impact head injuries, according to a statement Friday from New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella’s office.

At approximately 9:21 a.m. on Nov. 23, officers responded to a home on Center Road in Lyndeborough and discovered Prest dead. New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie Duval conducted the autopsy on Prest, and the investigation into any possible connection between his death and the shooting of 44-year-old Carlos Quintong earlier in the day in Brookline continues.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Nov. 23, law enforcement responded to the area of Route 13 and Townsend Hill Road in Brookline for a report of a shooting. Upon arriving, officers encountered Quintong responsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Quintong was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

On Friday, Robert Gagnon, 45, of Manchester was arraigned in Superior Court on a charge of attempted murder for allegedly shooting Quintong. According to the release, Gagnon was held on preventative detention with no bail, and he retains the right to request a bail hearing at a later date. A later status hearing will be scheduled by the court.

Anyone with information about the events of Nov. 23 is encouraged to contact the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit at 603-628-8477.

The attorney general’s office previously stated that there is no known threat to the public at this time. Several law enforcement agencies have assisted in this investigation, including the Lyndeborough, Milford, Greenfield, Peterborough,  Wilton and Nashua police departments, as well as the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
