Margaret Nelson, executive director of The River Center in Peterborough, received the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits’ New Hampshire Impact Award during the organization’s Nonprofit Impact Celebration.

The award honors nonprofit employees for significant contributions to their organizations, the nonprofit sector and the state. Presenting the award, Kathleen Reardon, CEO of the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits, recognized Nelson for her commitment to The River Center’s mission, staff and community, as well as her ability to bring individuals and groups together to support initiatives that improve services for individuals and families.

Reardon cited Nelson’s role in developing successful programs in collaboration with towns, faith communities and school districts; and her leadership roles in numerous regional and statewide organizations and coalitions. She also recognized Nelson’s leadership enabling The River Center to move to a more-accessible location and oversee its renovation, expanding professional development for staff and helping to develop a highly functioning board.

Staff and board members of The River Center were among the more than 150 guests to celebrate with Nelson and the other honorees at the awards ceremony held at the Bank of New Hampshire Stage in Concord. The River Center provides community connections, parenting support, free tax preparation and money coaching to strengthen individuals and families in the eastern Monadnock Region. Funding comes from Monadnock United Way, New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and contributions from individuals, businesses and private foundations.

The River Center is at 9 Vose Farm Road, Suite 115, Peterborough. For information, call 603-924-6800 or visit rivercenternh.org.
