Forty-eight graduates received their diplomas during Friday evening’s graduation ceremony at Mascenic High School in New Ipswich.
Angela McCabe, an honors graduate who is a member of the National Honor Society, a New Hampshire Scholar and the student representative to the Mascenic School Board, gave the welcoming address for the Class of 2024. McCabe thanked the Mascenic staff, including custodians, secretaries and the counseling department, as well as teachers, family and friends. McCabe will attend Nashua Community College.
Superintendent Chris Martin reflected on memories of her own graduation from high school in Manchester and the lifelong impact of educators in her life, including the band director at her school.
“Never miss an opportunity to thank the people who have influenced and helped you in your life,” Martin said. “All these years in school, you have all had report cards, telling you how you’ve done. But what all of you do with your lives from this point on – that’s our report card. And I know we are all in good hands as you move into the next stage of your lives. You will change the world with the decisions you make.”
Salutatorian and Class President Amelia Smith, who will be attending Dartmouth College, encouraged her classmates to “go out and truly live your lives.”
“We have 80 years to be adults, and only 18 years to be kids,” Smith said. “This past year, things got a lot more serious for us, as we had to make big decisions. I want to remind all of you to also have a great time.”
Valedictorian and Class Secretary Emma Schaumloffel, who will attend the Wentworth Institute of Technology, thanked the maintenance staff in particular for providing a “beautiful, clean and safe environment at our school.”
Reflecting on the years of work it took to become valedictorian, Schaumloffel quoted musician Snoop Dogg: “I want to thank me, for never quitting.”

Class adviser Jeremy Taylor encouraged graduates to “embrace the new” throughout their lives.
“You have reached the edges of your knowledge now. Challenge those edges as you move forward,” Taylor said. “As you expand you knowledge, your calling will come.”
