The Mascenic softball team has reached the semifinals of the state Division IV playoffs, after beating Lin-Wood 5-1 May 29 in its first-round game and then scoring a 2-0 victory over Pittsfield Saturday.
After 13 seed Lin-Wood scored in the top of the first inning, the fourth-seeded Vikings started out strong, thanks to Ella Pearson and Delaney Traffie, who both hit doubles, and Katalina Davis, who singled. All wound up scoring.
In the bottom of the fifth, Traffie hit a solo home run to center field, and ended the game with two RBI.
Davis, Mascenic’s starting pitcher, struck out 11 batters, surrendering one hit, one run and five walks to Lin-Wood.
After beating No. 5 seed Pittsfield, the Vikings will head to Chase Field at PSU Wednesday for the semifinals against top seed Woodsville at 7 p.m.
Wilton-Lyndeborough, the 10 seed in Division IV, lost 9-5 to Profile in the first round May 29.
