Local high school track and field teams were active in a handful of meets over the end of last week, led by a dominant 1600m performance from ConVal.

At its home meet against Souhegan and Windham, the ConVal boys placed seven in the top eight in the field for the 1600m, the premier middle-distance event, just under one mile.

Liam Veverka was the winner in a time of 5:00. Carter Hunt, Evan Coyne and Michael Post followed in 2nd through 4th with times of 5:03, 5:07 and 5:11.

In the girls 1600m, the strong Cougar performances continued, with Rachel Hurley placing 2nd in 5:52.

The ConVal boys were second in the team race, the girls finishing third. The girls were led by more strong middle distance running in the 800m, where Clare Veverka won with little challenge in 2:26.

Lucy Freeman and Rachel Hurley also scored in the top four of that event in 2:41 and 2:45. Veverka doubled with an 11:33 3200m time. Rhiannon Bell took the shot put with her 35-foot-8-inch heave. ConVal’s girls also won the 4x400m relay.

Liam Veverka was the boys 3200m winner in 11:08, and the team had two field event wins with Ryan Murray’s 42-foot-8-inch shot put and Liam Baldwin’s 36-foot-11-inch triple jump. They also won the 4x400m relay.

Conant competed this weekend at the Merrimack Valley Invitational in Concord. An impressive triple from junior Jordan Banish was the highlight for the Orioles.

She was 4th in the javelin throw at 83-feet-9-inches, 5th in the pole vault at 6-feet, and 8th in the 100m hurdles at 18.50 seconds.

Her teammates placing high at the invitational include freshmen Haylie Drew and Abigail Drew. Haylie was 5th in the 200m dash in 28.13 seconds and 8th in the long jump at 13-feet-7-inches. Abigail was the runner-up in the long jump at 15-feet-8-inches.

Isabella Mormando was the highest placed Oriole on the track, coming in 7th in the 800m run with a time of 2:32. The highest placing Conant athlete in the boys competition was Seth Mann, who was 7th in the pole vault, going 8-feet-6-inches.

Mascenic and Wilton-Lyndeborough competed at Monadnock Regional High School on April 20, with several Vikings athletes meeting the Division III qualifying standard.

Meagan Brand led the girls with her 28-foot-8.75-inch shot put mark. The boys were led by 1600m runners DJ Turner (4:40), Jake Movsessian (4:40) and Logan Thibault (4:46).
