If you have a brother or sister, chances are you’ll relate to the Mascenic drama club’s performances of “Mutually Assured Destruction.”

The play is made up of six short stories that span different time periods – from the 1920s to 2015 – with different characters. One is about a pair of siblings who threaten to post on the other’s social media accounts. There’s another that includes an argument about who split up their parents and caused the divorce. And a third one is a conversation between two sisters in the midst of the hippie movement in San Francisco of the 1960s. For the rest of the short stories, you’ll have to see “Mutually Assured Destruction” to see what kind of conflict and discussions happen between familiy members.

“One of my students found it and we thought it was relatable,” said drama club director Kaitlyn Armstrong. “Almost everyone can relate to having a brother or sister, a sibling.”

Each story includes just two actors/actresses on stage and are about 15 minutes each. With one intermission, audience members can expect to be in their seats for an hour and a half to two hours.

It’s not a very well-known show Armstrong said, but it fit perfectly with what she was trying to do with her first show at the school. Armstrong had acted during high school and saw there was an opening at Mascenic for a drama club director for this year. And when she got to Mascenic, she learned the club hadn’t put on a show for a few years and there were only five members.

So with the short story format and only two on stage at a given time, it seemed like a good show for the only performance of the school year. The goal is to get the club back on stage – and hopefully drum up more interest from students.

“As the kids have gotten into their roles, they’re developing their characters and have added more humor,” Armstrong said.

Some club members are playing as many as three roles, while other students are helping on the technical side of the show. The cast includes students Sarah Hibbard, filling the roles of Sam and Richard, Maya Callahan (Andrea, Rachel and Evelyn), Molly Main (Tara, Jessica and Virginia), Desiree Stafford (Joe and Mary) and Parker Hammann (Julian and Chad).

The shows are Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mascenic High School. Admission is   free.
