Greg Pickering, former assistant principal and interim principal at Mascenic Regional High School, will return to the helm to lead the school on a permanent basis, starting on July 1.

Pickering is currently principal of the Monadnock Regional Middle/High School, a role he held for the last year. He previously served at Mascenic in 2022 through 2024. Prior to that, he was a school counselor in the Windsor School. Originally from Sunapee, he holds a Bachelor of Science in child and family studies, a Master of Education in school counseling and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in educational leadership.

Superintendent Liz Pogorzelski said Pickering’s familiarity with the district was a plus in his consideration for the position.

“Greg worked really well with families and students. The assistant principal is a tough job in that you're the one calling having tough conversations. He has a very good reputation with students and parents,” Pogorzelski said.

Pogorzelski said that familiarity with the community would allow Pickering to “hit the ground running.”

“He knows some staff, knows a lot of the families, administrators in the district, and a lot of challenges faced by a principal walking into a new role, that allows him to be effective faster,” Pogorzelski said.

Pickering was the only finalist candidate to make it to the final stage of the interview process, meeting parents and staff in May.

“We had hoped to bring more candidates forward, but I feel confident in his ability to come to Mascenic, take it from where we are and ride a wave of improvement that as a district we're trying to embrace,” Pogorzelski said.
