Mascenic Regional High School announced a remote learning day for Friday, after being notified of “a couple situations related to COVID-19” connected to the school, according to Superintendent Christine Martin.

Martin declined to elaborate on the number of cases involved, or whether they were positive cases or some other situation.

One of the situations, she said, was reported to the district late in the day on Thursday, too late to fully complete the contact tracing process.

The district canceled sports practices for Thursday, and out of “an abundance of caution” moved Mascenic High School students to a remote learning day Friday, and delayed the scheduled basketball games against rival Conant High School.

The games are expected to be rescheduled, Martin said, and the district expects Mascenic students to be able to return to in-person class and resume sports practices and games on Monday. However, Martin said, contact tracing has yet to be completed, and those final decisions about returning to school may be impacted by that process.

“With COVID, things could always change 10 minutes from now,” Martin said.
