Most golfers who participated in Saturday’s NHIAA individual golf championship at Beaver Meadow shot much higher rounds than their qualifying total.

Josiah Hakala isn’t most golfers.

The Mascenic freshman shot an even 72 at the Concord course to win the Division IV individual championship, finishing with a cumulative -3 – better than the Division I, II and III winners.

Only Division I winner Jascha Johnson of Exeter had a better round on Saturday, at -1.

Hakala totaled a 141 in the two rounds; his closest competitor was senior teammate and defending individual champion Joseph Lisio, who was +15 on the day and took second place handily by five strokes over Jackson Horne of Woodsville, with a 163.

Mascenic’s Tyrus Krook, who snuck into the tournament by winning a playoff for the final spot, improved his score, shooting a +24 Saturday to finish in 12th.

Teammate Casey Brox took 13th after shooting a +49 Saturday.

In Division III, Laconia’s Evan Rollins held on to his lead and won with a +1 round (144).

ConVal’s Wyatt Burbank dropped a few spots with a second-round +13 and finished in a tie for ninth place with a cumulative 164.

Conant’s Jordan Ketola was +33 and finished 19th.
