“I’m not into bells and whistles,” Rev. Veronica Walsh Don said.

The new pastor at Mason Congregational Church is finally set to be celebrated this Sunday at her formal installation ceremony at the church.

“It’s a little anti-climactic because I’ve been here since 2015 and somehow the official installation hasn’t happened yet,” she said.

New Hampshire is one of six states the minister has lived in, beginning growing up in New York and most recently relocating from Florida. While her state connections go deep – when her daughters were young, the family lived in Hampton, but that was about 30 years ago – she sees Mason as a new opportunity. She resides in Milford and is active in other Hillsborough County congregations.

“I try to attend as many things as possible as I get the lay of the land,” she said.

Walsh Don was selected after a two-year search, beginning here almost two years ago.

She has a family lineage of Irish Catholic priests and nuns, and says that it is connected to her own faith journey: “Faith journeys are always connected.”

She was drawn to Mason because of the congregation’s young people and it’s sensitivity and action with what is going on in the world. She mentioned community suppers and pipeline meetings as evidence of the church’s engagement.

The installation ceremony is Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m. at Mason Congregational Church. Guests from across the region have been invited to attend the service and subsequent meet and greet.

“It’s her celebration, finally it’s happening for her and we’re very excited,” Bettie Goen, who was a member of the search committee that brought Walsh Don in, said. “It’s her official call to Mason and she’s asked for a fairly simple, low-key service.”

The Mason Congregational Church is a part of the United Church of Christ, which will have representatives present for the Sunday celebration.
