Mason firefighters complete new certifications

Mason Fire and EMS has had two members complete new qualifications, including a member completing Firefighting I and II training, and a Fire and EMS Instructor II course.

Firefighter/EMR Katie Boots completed of the Firefighter I/II course, and Capt. Jeffrey Partridge =completed Fire and EMS Instructor II, provided by the New Hampshire Fire Standards and Training and EMS, receiving their National ProBoard certifications.

Boots’ course was two nights a week and several Saturdays for a period of four months of intense education, hands-on skills and live fire experiences. The course totaled 266 hours in the class and additional hours outside the class. Partridge’s program was a month-long offering that was two nights a week online. The program was focused on developing lesson plans and how to effectively supervise Fire and EMS Instructor I’s.

Mason Fire Chief Tony Burns said that the addition of Partridge at the Instructor II level will give the Mason Fire and EMS another tool to expand its in-house training programs for personnel.

Burns said that he could not be prouder of Boots and Partridge, as this was a large undertaking for people who have full-time jobs in addition to all the class work.

“Firefighter/EMR Boots and Captain Partridge are exactly the kind of people we need at the Mason Fire-EMS department, dedicated, driven and follows through,” Burns said.

If any residents are interested in accessing training or participating in the Fire Department, the department is seeking people to join the ranks. Those interested can go to the town website, masonnh.us, or stop by the Fire Department on the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. or the third Sunday of the month at 8 a.m. and speak to Burns or Deputy Chief Eric Rantamaki.
