‘Jazz in January’ features Mehmet Sanlikol

On Sunday, Jan. 29, from 4 to 5:15 p.m., Music on Norway Pond presents “Jazz in January” with Grammy-nominated Mehmet Sanlikol and his trio at the Hancock Meetinghouse, 47 Main St., Hancock.

MehmetSanlikol is a composer of both western and Turkish music. He was the September 2016 Editor’s Pick of the jazz magazine “DownBeat,” and is also a professor at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

His compositions are influenced by Turkish music, in which Near Eastern and Middle Eastern modes and rhythmic cycles are intertwined with contemporary jazz. He is joined by George Lernis on drums and percussion, and James Heazlewood-Dale on bass.

Tickets are $25, and students of all ages are free.
