MilliporeSigma in Jaffrey is seeking entry-level positions for all shifts, and residents can apply through a drive-through style hiring event scheduled for next week.

MilliporeSigma, a life science manufacturing facility and one of Jaffrey’s largest employers, has been among those that have continued to grow during the COVID-19 pandemic, in part because the facility has been involved in some of the processes involved in developing the COVID-19 vaccinations.

The company invested in expanding its Jaffrey facilities as well as its facilities in Danvers, Mass., and expected both facilities to add a combined nearly 700 new manufacturing positions – 275 in Jaffrey – in 2021 and 2022.

The Jaffrey facility plans to hold a “drive-through” hiring event to fill multiple entry-level assembly operator positions.

The event is scheduled just as New Hampshire is ending an additional federal unemployment benefit.

As part of COVID-19 relief, the federal government has been supplementing unemployment with an additional $300 weekly benefit. New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu announced earlier this month that New Hampshire will be opting out of that program starting June 19, reverting to the benefits offered pre-pandemic.

Instead of the additional unemployment benefit, Sununu has announced an employment bonus for unemployed residents that find steady work. Starting this week, any person who starts a job with pay $25 an hour or less, and maintains that job for at least eight weeks, is eligible for a bonus of $500 for part-time work or $1,000 for full-time work.

The unadjusted unemployment rate for New Hampshire as of April 2021 is 2.7%. That’s an increase of about 22,350 participants compared to April 2020, but a decrease from the March rate, which was about 3.2%.

Nationally, the current unemployment in New Hampshire is the lowest unemployment rate in the nation, meaning employers are eager for applicants.

Sununu said the decision to end the additional unemployment benefit was to encourage New Hampshire residents who are able to return to work.

With entry-level positions, those hired at the drive-through event would qualify for that benefit, as well as the benefits or hiring bonuses provided by MilliporeSigma.

Wages for the offered positions vary based on shifts, but begin at $15 for first shift coverage, for 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. days. Second shift workers start at $16.50, and third shift at $17.25.

Weekend day shifts pay $18.34 for a 12-hour shift, and weekend overnights start at $19.17.

All shifts are available. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2, at 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. and then 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Hope Fellowship Church, located at 16 Prescott Road in Jaffrey. If you cannot attend, call 532-2301 for an immediate interview. The rain date for this event is June 9, at the same time and location.

Requirements include a high school diploma or the equivalent, and ability to read, write and speak English.

To participate in the hiring event, bring two forms of identification, high school diploma or proof of GED. Interested residents can register at forms.gle/WMUa8kwFKfuuJXKs5, but registration is not required.
