MilliporeSigma continues the expansion of its Jaffrey facility while manufacturing products used to fight the novel coronavirus. The company announced last week it plans to add 275 jobs to its growing workforce after the completion of a new $22 million, 25,000-square-foot project in 2022, adding to the 260,000-square-foot existing Jaffrey facility.

“This is an ongoing, multi-stage expansion that has been approved by town officials,” said Karen Tiano, company spokesperson for MilliporeSigma. “Construction is underway on the new building, which is next to the existing building at 11 Prescott Road in Jaffrey.”

Tiano said MilliporeSigma is “expanding capacity and bringing on additional production lines in Jaffrey as we speak.”

“The expanded facility will house sophisticated equipment used to produce our filtration devices and membrane products,” she said. “The expansion, when it comes to completion in 2022, will give us that much more space to add more equipment and more production lines at that time.”

Tiano said the Jaffrey facility has added about 150 to its workforce in 2020 and now employs 1,150.

“These jobs are primarily manufacturing jobs, but there will also be openings for roles in areas such as engineering, quality assurance and quality control. Anyone interested in applying should log onto MilliporeSigmaJaffrey.com,” Tiano said of the planned openings.

MilliporeSigma has been on the forefront in the fight against COVID-19 and assisting customers in the production of vaccines.

“The global coronavirus pandemic has significantly increased demand for our single-use and virus filtration technologies, which we are supplying to more than 50 different companies working on Covid-19 vaccine candidates,” said Chris Ross, interim CEO, MilliporeSigma, in the press release. “These investments will strengthen our global manufacturing footprint, allowing us to meet this unprecedented demand and help get lifesaving vaccines and therapies to more patients, faster.” Millipore did not identify which vaccine makers they are currently working with.

Tiano said the MilliporeSigma Jaffrey facility has been working hard to assist its customers in the battle against coronavirus.

“At our Jaffrey, New Hampshire manufacturing site, we produce filtration devices and membrane products, specifically Durapore filters, Express filters, and Viresolve product lines. These products are used by biopharmaceutical companies to manufacture vaccines and lifesaving therapies. The devices we make here in Jaffrey remove virus, contaminants and bacteria throughout many steps in the biomanufacturing process. These products are part of the standard process for making vaccines,” Tiano said.

And Tiano said the ability for MilliporeSigma to continue its work through the pandemic is because of the employees.

“We would add that our employees in Jaffrey have been working non-stop since the early days of pandemic, consistently showing an amazing level of dedication, commitment and passion for the work that they do, making some of the products critical in the fight against COVID-19 and other life-saving therapies,” Tiano said.

In total, the expansion plans with a price tag of $47 million announced last week, which includes MilliporeSigma’s Danvers, Massachusetts location, will create almost 700 jobs. According to the press release, “These sites supply critical products to customers developing lifesaving therapies, including COVID-19 vaccines, as well as provide products and services for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. These expansions will significantly increase capacity and output at these facilities in 2021 and 2022.”
