Mt. Monadnock Little League hosting state finals, where U10s will be competing

Mt. Monadnock Little League is hosting the state 10U and 12U finals this weekend at Legion Field in Jaffrey, and Mt. Monadnock’s 10U team will be competing, after winning the District One competition Sunday in Jaffrey.

District pool play took place over three weeks, with Mt. Monadnock going 7-1 to advance to the four-team double-elimination bracket play in Jaffrey and New Ipswich.

Mt. Monadnock beat No. 4 seed Bedford on 7-3 July 15 behind the pitching of Colton Swan, Ty Somero, Colson Damon, Porter Krook and Cooper Aho. Colton pitched three innings, allowing just one run. Cooper closed the game striking out the final two batters. Colton, Colson and Pierce Adams lead the way with two hits each.

After the two sides split in pool play, on July 16, Mount Monadnock beat Salem 6-0 behind combined no hit pitching from Colson and Porter. Colson started on the mound, striking out seven batters through four innings. Porter struck out four in two innings of relief.

Mount Monadnock got on top in the top of the first 2-0 behind a hit from Colton  scoring two runners. Ty and Mason Rose lead the team with two hits each.

The win moved Mount Monadock to the championship game, with Salem having to win twice. Salem won 8-3 on Saturday, forcing a winner-take-all game on Sunday. Ty and Cooper lead the team with two hits apiece.

Colson started on the mound, striking out seven and allowing two runs over 3 1/3 innings. Cooper came in relief.

On Sunday, Mount Monadnock topped Salem for the championship by an 11-2 score. Porter got the nod on the hill and pitched a complete game. He allowed two hits, two runs and struck out nine. The bats came alive, amassing 11 hits on the day. Spencer Hill and Colson both had two hits.

In the bottom of the first, Spencer and Colson scored to give Mt. Monadnock a 2-0 lead. In the second, Mason lead off with a single, followed by a double from Cooper and walks to Porter Spencer and Colson. Colton drove in those on base with a single to right to give Mt. Monadnock a 5-0 lead after two innings.

Hudson Seppala lead off with a double in the third, followed by a single from Pierce. Then Mason Blouin doubled, driving in two runs.

Mt. Monadnock led 9-0 after three innings, then added two more in the fourth on a single from Porter Krook, followed by a triple from Spencer and an infield hit from Colson.

The 12U finals begin Thursday, and Mt. Monadnock’s U10s will play North Manchester Hooksett Friday. The state final is a best-of-three series.
