Monadnock Music is collaborating with David Ross and Rohan Gregory to present an homage to tango, with food from Argentia and tango dancing with lessons, Friday, April 5, at 6 p.m. at Heberton Hall in Keene.

According to Monadnock Music Musical Director Rafael Popper-Keizer, “The Argentinian tango has become synonymous with sensuality, danger and a smoldering balance of passion and restraint that shifts explosively from one moment to the next.  You will experience a retrospective of tango through the decades as conceived by composer Astor Piazzolla, whose raw, eclectic ‘tango nuevo’ revolutionized the art form.”

David Ross (guitar) and Rohan Gregory (violin) will perform Astor Piazzolla's “Histoire du Tango,” which presents the history and evolution of the tango in four distinct movements, each tracing the musical and aesthetic elements that define the music through the ages. “Bordel, 1900” demonstrates the dance form as it originated in Buenos Aires in 1882, followed by a more-concertized version in “Café, 1930.”

It will be followed by a cosmopolitan, fusion version as tango meets bossa nova in “Nightclub, 1960,” and finally, tango will be presented as high art, mingled with contemporary composition approaches of Bartok and Stravinski in “Concert d’aujord’hui.”

Scott Tilton and Erica Skye will be performing the tango, and then will demonstrate the dance for the audience, who will be encouraged to join them on stage and dance.

Tickets for the concert and dancing are $28, and two for $50. Tickets for the concert, dancing and Argentine appetizers are $45, and two for $80. All Monadnock Music members get a free ticket for the concert and dancing. Members can purchase the appetizer portion of the evening for $18. A cash bar for Argentine wines will also be available.

Tickets are available at monadnockmusic.org.
