Mt. Monadnock Little League 10U team wins state title

The Mt. Monadnock Little League 10U district all-stars won the state championship Saturday in Jaffrey, besting North Manchester Hooksett 2-0 in the best two-out-of-three series, including a 24-2 win in the clinching contest.
Friday night, Mt. Monadnock recorded a 9-8 walkoff victory. The game was tied 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth when Dex Seppala drew a walk with bases loaded.
North Manchester Hooksett scored a run in the top of the first, but Mt. Monadnock responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a double by Ty Somero. The score was 5-2 Mt. Monadnock after three innings following a three-run triple to left field by Colson Damon.
In the top of the fourth, NMN put up three runs to tie the game at 5-5, and then added three more in the top of the fifth to take an 8-5 lead. Mt. Monadnock came up with three runs of their own in the bottom half to tie it up after Dex and Cooper Aho singled, followed by a run-scoring single from Porter Krook.
In the top of the sixth, Porter struck out the first two batters, and then Cooper came in relief to strike out the third batter. Dylan Hatton started the bottom of the sixth with a walk, followed by a single from Hudson Seppala and a walk to Pierce Adams. Dex drew the walk on a 3-1 count, scoring the game-winning run.
Colson started on the mound, pitching 3 1/3 innings and striking out seven. He allowed four hits and two runs. Colton Swan and Ty both came in short relief. Porter came in during the fifth inning to shut things down after NMN had put up three runs before he and Cooper combined to close out the sixth.
Spencer Hill, Mason Blouin and Cooper each scored two runs on the night.
Leading one game to none, Mt. Monadnock got on top early Saturday, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. Porter lead off with a walk. Colton drove in two runs with a single to right center. Dylan was hit by a pitch and Hudson reached on an error, loading the bases for Pierce. He came through with a single up the middle, scoring one run, followed by a double by Mason Rose, scoring three runs.

Porter got the start on the mound, and surrendered two runs in the bottom half of the inning. However, Mt. Monadnock extended the lead with two runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles from Spencer and Colton.
The score was 9-2 going into the fourth inning when the bats exploded. Porter singled, scoring one run. Spencer drove home two runs with a double. Colson and Colton each drove in runs with doubles. Hudson drew a walk, scoring one run. Pierce drove in a run with a single, and Mason’s single scored two runs.
Cooper singled, scoring one run, and another run scored when Spencer was hit by a pitch. Colson doubled home two runs, followed by a Colton double that drove in two runs. Mt. Monadnock scored 15 runs in the fourth inning.
Porter earned the win, giving up four hits and two runs in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out seven on the day. Cooper came on in in relief to record the final two outs.
The state title was the first in Mt. Monadnock’s history. They will travel to Cranston, R.I. for the regional tournament this Friday, and will play Massachusetts on Saturday morning at 9:30.
