New Ipswich has been named among the top 10 safest towns in the state.

SafeWise, a website which compares and rates home security resources, released it’s annual top 20 safest towns in the state, compiled based on police statistics and town’s population. New Ipswich rated number 9 for 2019.

According to the SafeWise analysis, New Ipswich has a violent crime rate of .38 per 1,000 people, and a property crime rate of 7.05 per 1,000 people. Cities that fell below identified population thresholds or that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI were excluded from the ranking system.

“It’s definitely a positive for the town and it’s something to be proud of,” Town Administrator Carlotta Pini said.

In 2018, the New Ipswich Police Department responded to 5,244 calls for service. Of those, 88 were criminal arrests, involving 274 criminal incidents, according to the 2018 Town Report.

Pini said that while the report is a positive thing for the town, residents shouldn’t be complacent.

“There is still activity in town that folks should be aware of, and people should still continue to be vigilant about protecting their homes and property,” Pini said.

The top 20 towns on the list are located in the southern half of the state. Nottingham was named the safest community, with zero violent crimes reported. Manchester was ranked last at 79, with an average of almost 7 violent crimes per 1,000 people, and 26 property crimes per 1,000.
