New Ipswich has scheduled morning and afternoon observances in honor of Memorial Day on Sunday, May 22.

As in years past, there are two parades planned to honor those fallen in service to their country, one in the morning ending with observances in the South Cemetery, and one in the afternoon ending with services in the Center Cemetery.

The morning parade will form by the Smithville Village flagpole on Page Hill Road at 9:30 a.m., and the parade will begin at 10 a.m. The parade will proceed to South Cemetery via Page Hill Road. The Mascenic Regional High School Choir and Chris Bergeron will provide music for the program, including a performance of the national anthem by the choir.

Prior to the parade, Pete and Bonny-Jo Aho will be providing their traditional coffee and pastry for parade participants and observers at their home on Goen Road.

The afternoon parade forms at the New Ipswich Congregational Church at 12:30 p.m., and begins at 1 p.m., accompanied by the Keene American Legion Band. The parade will proceed to Center Cemetery for observances, followed by reforming the parade and proceeding down Main Street to the Soldiers’ Monument for another ceremony.

Following the ceremony, the parade will reform and proceed to Memorial Field before disbanding. At Memorial Field, the local Boy Scout troop will be serving hot dogs and drinks to parade participants free of charge.

All veterans from New Ipswich and surrounding towns are encouraged to join either or both parades to march or ride. Veterans needing a ride can contact Memorial Day Committee Chair Ollie Niemi at 603-878-2995.
