Two years after its purchase was approved, the Greenville Fire Department accepted delivery of its new fire truck March 13.

In 2022, the town approved $600,000 for the purchase of the vehicle, which has become the department’s new Engine 2. Fire Chief Ben Buttrick said the truck it is replacing, a 1981 GMC, will be retired from service and put out to bid.

Buttrick said a typical pumper is recommended to be in service for about 20 years. The GMC had been in service more than twice that long, and was ready to retire. But even after the town approved the purchase of a new vehicle, it has been a long time waiting for delivery due to supply issues, Buttrick said.

The new pumper, purchased from Lakes Region Fire Apparatus, holds about 1,000 gallons of water and has a pump that produces about 1,500 gallons per minute.

Over the coming weeks, Greenville Fire Department members will be preparing Engine 2 to be put into service by loading it with hose and equipment and mounting tools, and training on driving the vehicle and operating the pump.
